Meet the Legendary Three Chimigos

The heart of Robin’s Nest Rescue can be traced back to three small but mighty dogs who changed everything: Lily, Alberto, and Julio — forever known as The Three Chimigos. Their story began in 2010, when Kimber first met Lily, a spirited Chihuahua mix at the San Diego Humane Society. That one encounter became life-changing, opening the door to what would eventually grow into Robin’s Nest. Soon after, Alberto — a gentle, golden boy carrying the scars of past abuse — and Julio — a soulful black Chi with a limp but an unshakable spirit — joined the family through OCPoundHounds.

Together, these three little dogs became larger than life. Fiercely loyal, endlessly loving, and always present, the Chimigos were sidekicks in every sense of the word — traveling with “Nana” to college classrooms, becoming beloved companions to family and friends, and touching the hearts of thousands of students along the way. But they were always by Mommy’s side, as you will see, until the very end. They were more than pets; they were teachers, healers, and living proof of the strength that can grow from second chances.

The Chimigos set the tone for everything Robin’s Nest Rescue would one day become. Their legacy lives on in the spirit of the sanctuary, reminding us daily that the smallest creatures can leave the greatest mark. Their lives have inspired songs, stories, and even a children’s book series — most recently, “The Robin’s Nest Song” by singer-songwriter Ashley E. Norton.

Through their memory, we hold fast to the truth that guides all we do:
We rescue them. They save us.
